Can't fit carbs back on. Any tips for nc30?
This is perhaps the most frustrating thing in the world. I've taken the carbs off an on before a few times. I've bought new inlet rubbers and now I can't get the carbs back on. I've been trying for three days straight! Are there any tips for this. Its a honda nc30. Any help would be appreciated as i'm losing patience and am tempted to just sell the bike as it is to someone more competent.

Hello mate, new rubbers are a nightmare, some say soak them in boiling hot water first to get them squishy. I soak them in petrol overnight and then smear some grease around edges of the carbs. Line the front two up first but not all the way in, push the backs as close as possible. Then with a small thin and long screwdriver flip the carb rubbers over and they should sit down on them!
Make sure the rubbers are lined up right before you start putting the carbs on.

Like was said line the front two up first then push down as much as you can, brute force is not enough though and I found using a piece of wood and a hammer was needed to get the carbs back inplace.. I know it sounds a bit Jeremy Clarkson but I have done it this way for years with no ill affects. When I changed Carb rubbers the old ones where so worn that I could pull the carb on and off without much trouble with the newer ones it cant hurt to put them in hot water to get them a bit more pliable..

(mayb on this forum ??) I wouldnt go that far but you will defo need to apply a force to get them in and lined up. Just take your time and try not to get to peed off, once you have the knack of doing it the next time it is a 10min job..

Ive always found (other than jumping on them) that sitting the back 2 in then a crow bar under the frames crossbar and push down on the front 2 works a treat. Bit of lube helps slip it in

I have also tried the 'stand on the fuckers' method. Eventually found some leverage from a flat bladed screw driver worked the best, +1 on lubing the rubbers to help them slip in.

thanks for the help guys. I got so frustrated that I called a mechanic to sort it out for me. I felt bad for not going through with the job, but it's my first bike so that feeling was quickly outweighed by the feeling of excitement of soon beeing actually able to ride the thing

Mate we have all been there, I have been messing with bikes for about 12 years and still find myself getting pi$$ed off from time to time with certain jobs that just seem impossible to get right.
Sportsbikes are always the worst as they are so compact and everything is hidden away, just look at how easy a full service is on a Suzuki Bandit compared to a NC30..
Having the right tools and a bit of knowledge is all you need and that comes with time, no one is a fantastic mechanic without putting in the effort to learn what they are doing and getting bloody knuckles

I got the report back from the mechanic and it turns out there is LOT more work needed on the bike. 1. Heavily corroded exhaust. 2 Back breaks needing rebuilding. 3. Front shocks bent slightly so out of line, to name a few. Suddenly turned into a big project!! I'm surprised that I'm looking forward to it. I'm just about to embark on a long expensive journey no doubt.
If the front shocks can't be corrected, can anyone recommend some aftermarket ones if they'll be an improvement?

that dont sound too bad mate.
you could prob pick up a exhaust system off here very reasonably priced...same goes for the front forks.
the back brake is something you can easily do yourself, i had no knowledge of fixing bikes and following the guide in the manual and practical sportsbike magazine made stripping and rebuilding the caliper a complete doddle. seriously, if i can do it, almost anyone can!! i was scared to attempt it but once i started it seemed really easy and straightforward.
