Homemade Gaskets?
i removed the breather case ontop of the camshaft cover/case and damaged the gasket, ive removed it and then cleaned the 2 faces with the hope i could come in and order one from DSS but its discon' part number 12332-ML0-722
so seeing as its just for oil vapours and occasional splashing, would it be ok to creat one with nice thinkish card?
Rick

Re: Homemade Gaskets?
You can use a Cornflake packet with a sealant [Wellseal, Hylomar, Silicon], but better yet, buy gasket sheets [Klingersil] to make your own and fit them greased both sides.
I have 1.5, 0.8, and 0.35mm thick sheets, and can send a piece if you want.
90mm x 160mm?
Dave.

Re: Homemade Gaskets?
Thanks dave, what does that stuff cost as rule never come across it before, i have a piece of card from some christmas presents, which i was going to use, but ill take you up on that offer how much would you like buddy.
the breather case at its widest and lengthist' is 80mm x 155mm
not sure what thickness id need, but id imagine the thickest as the gasket is free in the air in someparts,
if i would have known what it was like inside i wouldnt have taken it off. knowing it would cause this much trouble!

Re: Homemade Gaskets?
You can buy gasket maker. It's called Permatex. It goes on like glue and dries like rubber. Can be removed once dry...just peels off basically. Surfaces need to be dry and free of oil.

I use that stuff around the car. Haven 't used it on the bike yet besides on the exhaust for better sealing.

Re: Homemade Gaskets?
I have now posted off a sheet of all 3 thicknesses.
Instant gasket may well work, but I am always worried that bits will find their way into the engine/oilways.
I only use grease on the gasket surfaces.

Re: Homemade Gaskets?
we used to make gaskets for the mini's when we were racing and i have done so for a couple of bikes now, a lot of the time the gasket paper works out a lot cheaper than the proper thing and is made of the same stuff, we now have loads of copies of gaskets that we would need (kept mum busy cutting them out between making cups of coffee!!)
