Any one done this before?

sorry to be chucking in random threads tonight, but ive had a productive day.

what i did was used a sheet of 2000 W&D on one of the wifes trays from the kitchen, sprayed it with water and slowly rubbed it in little circles,

i then when i got neatly down to the alloy, i then keyed the rest of the original black paint, and then today laquered it and baked it in the wifes oven!

what do you guys think, im quite chuffed looks quite good, gotta wait a few days for the laquer to harden nicely.

if i wasnt married and didnt have kids, id be the sort of guy that would start a bike museum, and would probally move the garage into a spare bedroom or lounge, i think its in the blood from my grandad jeff, he was a bike enthusiast who spent many an hour making and breaking things in his shed. i loved him dearly and miss him, but he would be proud. except i ride a jap bike so maybe not.

my wife nags at me as it is and i try to keep my hours out there down, i think it could lead to a divorce at some point!

ive only spent 2 afternoons out there this week, back out tomorrow, to play catch up waiting for my bits from curt to be sand blasted so i can then have them powder coated and then bingo i can rebuld the bike and post back that swingarm tool. sorry to make you wait tony.

i take it mrs was out at time . nearly got caught spraying the inside of a top cowl with a rattle can in kitchen once as it was too cold and windy outdoors , got job done came out perfect then spent nearly 2 hrs trying to get the overspray off the kitchen units and the hall stair carpet i trudged paint onto got away with it she never noticed but made a comment on her return as to why windows are open and what the hells that smell its nipping my eyes

I'd be interested to know what type of lacquer you used.

BTW, what does, "keyed the reak of the original black paint" mean? I assume you mean "rest", but is "keying" necessary before the lacquer?

sorry TYPOS im terrible for it.

yes it is important you key the paint for the laquer to go on top and adhere nicely, youll be wet and drying the surface anyway and inevitibly slip at some point any way!

i just used normal automotive laquer rattle can stuff. cost about £7 from halfords here.
