Changing gearing on nc35

Hey guys,

Need to replace my rear sprocket as it may be warped or not perfectly round. Currently I've got standard 15/38 gearing with a top of the line 525 chain. Was thinking of maybe going to a 40t sprocket on the rear.

Was just wondering if this will affect my speedo, and if so by how much? Also do you think I will have to put more links in my chain or will I be able to just loosen the chain and stick the sprocket right in?

Yes your speedo will overread and you won't need any extra links for +2 on the rear.

Why are you only replacing the rear?

As per my other topic I have 'tight spots' in my chain but I thk it's to do with the sprocjet as I don't think a $280 top of the line chain stretched in about 1000kms. I'm going to replace the rear sprocket to make sure that is the problem part. If so, then I'll replace the front as well :)

Hmm if I won't need extra links then I may stick it on and see how it goes Will it make the bike take off much faster? My cousin beat me at the drags last week by .2 of a second on his Aprilia 750 and I want to beat him badly! I was getting really bad starts though (lifting slightly off the start and then bogging down) so hopefully next time we go, if I have +2 on the rear and I give it a bit more when I take off I can beat him!! (or maybe the bogging down is because too much air is getting in and it's not tuned properly for power in the low revs? My bike has been tuned properly by the grey bike specialists in Sydney...)

RVF standard gearing is very lame if you ask me and needs atleast a +2 rear to make it lively. Whats wrong with the bike that its bogging down? you might wanna get that sorted before taking on anymore drag races. do yourself a favour and fit a new front sprocket at the same time, if your certain your rear is knackered then theres a pretty good chance your front is too, all your be doing is fucking your new chain up which will in turn fuck your new sprockets faster when you get round to replacing them.

Yeah Im only going to the drags a few times a year for a bit of fun with some mates so not too worried.

Yeah I'll replace the front sprocket as well. Not sure why but it bogs down slightly. I'll see if the +2 gearing helps at all :)

The bogging down may just be how NC's are, dont wanna teach you how to suck eggs but NC's are not the gruntiest of motors, they still like revs to get them going at a decent rate. +2 on the rear will mask that a little and should be a little easier to keep in the power. If its still bogging down more than you think it should id then look at the carb settings.

Or get it launched on the clutch... They don't pull from standstill and wind the revs on. You need to give it the beans and slip the clutch. You'll find that once you get it dialled you'll get a decent enough launch.

Hmmm I loosened the chain as much as it will go and the 40 tooth sprocket wouldn't fit unfortunately And I don't have the links that were cut out of the chain originally so looks like I'm staying with standard gearing (I could drop to 14 on the front but this may be too much power down low..)

What do you mean by 'once I get it dialled'? Do you mean once I've got the revs up? Or once I fix the gearing?

You'll soon learn the place in the clutch lever and bite that you can feel the bike taking off as fast as it can go.

The 40 tooth sprocket wouldnt fit so I may go down on the front. Since standard gearing is 15/38, does that mean going -1 on the front would have the same affect as going (38/15 =) +2.53 on the rear?...

Will it put the speedo out by much? This will mean it will go slower in each gear, but rev out much faster, right?
