Repairing Panels.

I have a few NC30 panels which I need to repair and was thinking the same questions!

The drilling advice sounds good too. I know it as a 'Stop drill/drilling' Its often used (even on some military aircraft to stop cracks in the airframes! )

This is very true, alot of the time it's through titanium exhaust shields as they tend to crack and thankfully the harrier has now gone because that was a pain in the t1ts, aluminium panels will always crack but this is the same in civvy street, undercarriage doors are the worst.

A pic of where I drilled a hole to stop the crack spreading!


On the reverse of the panel I started to melt the ABS rod into the crack.

Bit of an update since i actually got round to doing it lol. Brought some plastex of amazon to have a play about with:




The crack is now fully repaired. The stuff is pretty awesome and easy to work with, the area is rock solid now. Also made my own lug to replace one that has snapped off the top (out of pic) with the same stuff.

Need to decide what to do with it next, not sure whether to go back to a standard seat unit and get this painted up decent when my loan comes in (or job which evers first)

I have used a soldering iron and welded mine with some ABS plastic rods bought of flebay!!! worked a treat, as good as new. Just remember to drill a small hole at end of crack to stop it extending then file or grind a groove along crack on rear of panel and then weld away
