What exhaust system are you running? Jet sizes, needle heights?

All play a part!

Kris
My exhaust is standard, with an aftermarket carbon muffler. Its non branded, but has more flow than a standard muffler. My needle sizes are 112/115. I did try 115/118 but it ran real crap. Not sure how to set up the needles. At the moment mid range is really nice, around 9-11000 rpm, but it gets crappy after that, particually in 5th and 6th.

If I decide to play with the jets again and go for a 118/120 set up, how do you set the standard needles?

Also, how fast do you guys ride your bikes? Do they handle being ridden for sustained periods at 11 and 12000rpm, or is this a bit much for them?

Never had any problems with my bike a sustained high RPM's, just came back from Pattaya (bkk-pattaya-bkk) and didn't have any issues cruising at 160kmh or any times prior to that :)
As for the jetting, the only way to get it set up right in on a rolling road, but they're a little tricky to find in Bangkok, your jetting seems to be about right for this climate, mine runs slightly smaller than yours 110/112 respectively and i think i have fixed the problem with the missing PUNCH when the engine's upto temperature (split radiator core). :(

At 160kph how many revs is your bike doing? Mine is reving about 11000rpm at 160kph, but with the larger 16 tooth sprocket it revs about 10,000.

Don't know, i have an RVF tacho fitted and it doesn't read correctly lol
I must get around to sourcing the right pic up points / loom for it, or find a VFR rev counter.
I never really look at a rev counter (just listen to the engine) so never considered replacing it, mine bike pulls strongly, right off the clock, so much so i am sure it's doing around 220 - 230kmh before she runs out of puff. :)

So i would assume 14,500 rpm for 220-230kmh and around 9000 for 160kmh, guesstimates of course but i can't be too far off (Standard gearing)
