Major Service Checklist.. Anything missing

Post by iSparkzz »

Well i decided it is time to get her serviced. As i have no idea on when it was service last or if there is something i should know about. I want it to feel like it should, cause right now it feels a bit dull and in need of a good service.

My list so far...
full check over of the bike making sure there is no cracks or anything damaged that i should know about.
new brake pads
new plugs
coolant flush and new coolant.
brake fluid flush
new leads (if they need to be done)
new oil filter
new oil
new air filter
new fork seals and oil
check the tuning and make sure carbys are balanced if not that done to.

money is no issue here as im selling another bike so i will have some to spend on her.

anything else i am missing?
basically i want anything and everything that can be done to it now so i know where its at and then i can start doing my normal service routine.

you should probably include Valve clearances checked and adjusted if needed. there is a great guide on here how to do it.

you could use and engine cleaner too, one that goes in the old oil before you change it.

Fuel hoses
Vacuum hose
check for any weak water hoses too, i had one burst open a while back, lucky i wasn't far from home and no damage occurred.
18 year old rubber is unacceptable, i wouldn't ride my bike with old hard perished tyres, sure as hell wouldn't trust 18 year old water hoses, so i'm changing them over as well as removing the thermostat (35+ degree Thailand) :)

I'm basically doing a major service like you this week (valve clearances, brakes, carbs, chain, sprockets, swingarm and wheel bearings previously done) so i'll be keeping an eye on this thread too.

Karl :)
