a Worrying Engine NOISE
when i returned my last bike ride to woburn, i notice whilst putting her into the garage there was a new sound!
well after a very cold night i decided to let her run for 30mins, and after a tricky start the noise i remember from last time was back only it seemed LOUDER!
the video isnt great nore is the clarity of the sound,
the noise seems to come from the bottom on the engine, cant acertain wether its crank or gear box, no noise difference with clutch in or out, and the sound increase when the RPM does, ive never been any good at locating problems with noises so i hope someone can help me id the problem,
if its serious then i think the engine is due a BIG overhaul and if so what sort of prices would i be looking at to do so, as i plan on doing it myself with genuine parts!
thanks Rick

Re: a Worrying Engine NOISE
It doesn't sound like an engine noise from what I can hear. Sounds more like air leak, maybe exhaust header blow?
It's difficult to record it properly with all the fairings in the way reflecting and distorting the sound.

Re: a Worrying Engine NOISE
Difficult to tellf rom your video.
I'm really suprised if it's time for a major engine build, these engines are pretty bullet proof. Assuming there's been no major neglect of any routine oil changes and you've been excessively with the front wheel in the air.
I'd think you'd be looking at at least £200 for a rebuild. I've never done one but cost of rings, gaskets soon mount up.

How hard can it be?

Re: a Worrying Engine NOISE
Didn't listen to your vid - as my ears are fecked! lol, but if it's a tapping / knocking sound mine had the same - I was convinced it wasn't the exhaust and something more sinister... but took off the lowers with a friend (who has better hearing - lol) and low and behold it was the exhaust, one of the studs had worked loose.
Gotta be worth a look.
Mine is now fecked as the stud will no longer thread in and just slips out, think I need to get it sleeved only problem is there's not much to drill out down there, and don't want it to weaken and snap - dilemma....

Re: a Worrying Engine NOISE
no oil light,
dont think its tappets sound far too low,
exhausts have all been reffited recently and again they were nice and tight, new gaskets, and copper grease everywhere,
gonna get all plastics off tommorrow and get uber pikey and my old man to see/hear what they think.

Re: a Worrying Engine NOISE
tappets usually get worse over time as a rule, this sound basically just APPEARED. and its loud.
the vid really doesnt do it justice. but as you can hear somrthing aint right.
