Need to swap out Rear shock.

Post by rccaulfield » Mon Nov 08, 2010 7:27 pm

Does anyone have the time to give me some steps on swapping the rear shock on my nc35. I've a mint used one and mines rusted up to bits. I have stands, fairings off, all the tools -always handed this over to a pro but i wanna get in there and clean it all up while its out! Any help appreciated!

Its best to remove the exhaust if its your first time so you can see what your doing properly, other than that its pretty self explanatory,

undo the lower linkage and have a axle stand ready to support the swingarm
undo the top shock mount and out she pops
you may have the jiggle the swingarm about a bit the clear the shock but again thats self explanatory

Then buy a haynes manual ;) well worth the £10 or £15 for one.

:plus:
You will also need to support the bike under the engine, as the rear paddock stand will hamper the swing arm and make it a little more difficult :peace:
And as DM says a Haynes manual is worth getting, saved me a few times
An NC is for life, not just for Christmas!

i use the paddock stand to get the bike of the floor, remove the wheel,

using a couple of rachet straps and the rear pillion seat removed, hook them on and jack the back end up with the straps.

drop an axel stand under the rear oil sump slightly toward the right in front of where the exhaust go down.

it helps if the exhaust is out of the way as i find the pipes get in the way where the dog/wish bone bolts are.

yes if you have fixed rear pegs on your rear sets, other wise, 14mm spanner on the back, rotate them 180 degrees and use them with stands under neath.

:plus: not tried taking the rear suspension out yet, but was invaluable in taking the forks out

useless if taking out the swing arm tho

ran a rod through the swing arm, and used my axel stands and then realised mission imposible,

i really should get pics of it as it is with rachet strap, and axel stand, no rear end at ALL!
