HRC Oil Cooler/Rad cooling fan clearance?

Do anyone know if there is sufficient room for the radiator cooling fan to remain in position if you fit the HRC Oil Cooler Kit and Stnandard Honda Oil Filter?

NO, I doubt it.

Why bother using HRC race parts and wanting to keep road parts (fan) as well?

What is the bike being used for?

Can you actually get a HRC cooler part or are you just wanting one? Theya re pretty rare..and horrific cash compared to a nice Mocal Oil/Air setup.

As Mark says I doubt it will fit, it was designed for the kit rad which is slightly thicker than the standard rad.

The bike is being brought back to concurs standard and will not be used for the track. I have been trying to track down various HRC parts for the bike for quite a while and Cammo has pointed me in the direction of a genuine Oil cooler.

RO lists shorter oil filters, isn't this what they are for?

Won't fit, and you can actually get a Honda oil cooler from a CBR600 F4i.

So the Rad cooling fan has to be removed if you fit any kind of Oil Cooler and Oil filter. With this in mind and having read Royster81's topic and the Akhara web page on this subject

I've come up with an idea but I need some help.

I would like to attach a red LED light to the Thermoswitch (37760-MR1-003) The LED would be on wires long enough to mount it somewhere visible while riding. The idea being, that in traffic for example when the engine was getting too hot, requiring the fan to normally come on, the LED would light up instead. I could then stop any overheating by switching the engine off. Yes I know, I could watch the Temp gauge but they're not exactly digital!!

I'm not expecting this too happen that often, but it's just for my own peace of mind. Remember that all UK NC30's had oil coolers with rad fans fitted as Standard!

Therefore, to all you engineers, technicians out there this one is for you. The first question may not be a question but just incase I've got it wrong please confirm my thoughts.

Q1 Will the thermoswitch do exactly that, act as a switch for the light? I'm guessing yes otherwise how does it turn the fan on!

Q2 What connector do I need, similar to the plug on the end of the Rad Cooling fan lead, (don't know it's exact type/name), please can you let me know and where to possible look to obtain one?

Q3 Will any LED that is 12V do, or do I need to build in some form of protection to stop it blowing? If so what is it and again a good link for obtain the LED and other wires etc?

This is off topic for what you are looking for but the UK spec bikes had oil coolers plumbed into the block, not sandwiched between the oil filter and block.

Why do you want one so bad anyway? It can't get THAT hot up there.

you seem to want to do with pretty bad and i'd like to put a fan of some sort on my bike, so why don't you go down the route of fitting a CBR oil cooler, getting the pump cover modded to take the barbs for the hoses and find some sort of fan to attach to the rad.

either top or bottom ( i'd guess bottom as there is little room with the CBR cooler in place) and find a way to get one or two small fans in there and get them working.

if memory serves me right ( help me out here paul/rick/dave) the RC30 had fans on the top rad side by side ( two rads ) so why can't wee find some small scooter/125cc/water tight fans to attach to the top rad .

i have a top rad in the garage so i can get measurements etc if need what do you think to that ?

So did the Japanese NC24, well it had one top radiator with a fan and an oil cooler, this bike doesn't get hot very often.

Yes, kind of.

The thermoswitch just connects the earth up.

What you'll need to do is this

[12v+ Battery or Wire]--------(12v LED)----------[Thermoswitch]

Run 12v from the battery (or any wire that is live when the bike is running) and connect the -ve lead of the LED to the thermoswitch, this will connect the earth up when triggered. Worth getting a 12v LED to avoid blowing it and needing to drop to voltage, anyone will do.

The thermoswitch uses a standard female spade connector. I wouldn't bother taking power for the LED from the fan plug, it means running more wires as you only need a generic 12v, it doesn't have to come from the fan-plug, so instead take it from somewhere by the clocks... you'll have a nice short wire for the +ve of the LED and a longer wire to the thermoswitch for the -ve :)

If your in the UK visit maplins (they have a website too) and will be able to sell you a 12v LED in a range of colours, some wire and a spade connector.

Remember, LED's are polarised (this means they have a + and a - and have to be wired up the right way..
