NC24 - Getting in shape for MOT, a quick update.

Managed to fab/modify the collector box. It looks a little rough but it's only intended as temporary until I can afford a stainless jobbie. Spot welded the collars on and liberally applied exhaust paste. Ten minutes in the oven (don't tell the missus that is the cause of the smell in the kitchen) and it was set nicely I popped it into place and stuffed exhaust bandage wadding around the headers to fill the gaps before squirting in more exhaust paste to fill the joints.








Got it running OK but it was hunting quite a bit and running rather rich so I've had the carbs back off. I'm glad I did

#1 pilot screw was 2.75 turns out, #2 was 1.5 turns out, #3 was 2 turns out and #4 was 2.5 turns out

Set them all back to spec (2 turns) and got it all back together. Apart from a slight blow on one of the front pipe seals where the collector had moved a bit and cracked the joint, it was running fine. I've added a bit more exhaust paste into the crack and left it to set. I'll see how it shapes up later this afternoon.

I'm going to need new fork seals, though it can't fail on them because there's no oil left in the forks so no danger of it leaking onto the pads or discs

As long as the exhaust system isn't falling off it shouldn't really make a difference, they dont' test that the engine emissions.

I've MOT'd bikes before that don't have running engines.
