Jonno's RVF400 - What do you think?..

Hey Guys,

This is my NC35 which I bought completely stock aside from an aftermarket exhaust pipe. Since then I've done a few things to it:

- Full Tyga exhaust with carbon pipe (Professionally rejetted and dynotuned - producing 62.2rwhp)
- Tyga carbon instrument cover
- Tyga carbon fuel cap cover
- Tyga Double Bubble screen
- Carbon triple tree cover
- Carbon tank protector
- LED indicators
- New Dunlop GPRA-12 Tyres
- New Gold Chain
- Progrip Grips
- Black Shorty Levers w/ red adjusters
- HRC and Michelin Man Stickers (+ 2hp each)
- HRC reservoir sock
- Raised the rear suspension
- Carburetors cleaned and balanced

Next to do:
- Carbon Air Ducts (let me know if you have any for sale!)
- Re-paint the wheels (the black paint on the wheels is fading) - not sure if I will stick with the black, or change to white wheels..
- I'm thinking of putting these on the wheels.. Not sure how they will look on the bike.. I'll probably just buy them and give them a go..

Aside from that, I'm happy with it how it is, and I'd like to spend the summer riding it rather than having it in 100 pieces in my garage!

At present it is only being used on the road, but hopefully will be doing a California Superbike School course on it at the end of the year, and probably a couple track days next year!

She's a smart looking bike mister! Decent hp numbers (I assume that was RB's dyno reading which will be dead accurate), does it go well?

My only criticism (there's always some!):

- The hrc stickers sit too low and too far back on the seat panels.
- Steel braided brake lines on the front calipers will improve the break feel and response big time (forget about putting one on the rear brake IMO)


Really nice looker. Good to see you getting stuck in and attempting a lot of the work yourself also.

The quicker you get on the track with it the better for you and the bike!

Thanks Cammo. Yep RB Imports readout. Took it for a ride this arvo and didn't want to come home. I couldn't push it too hard because the tyres are new, but it handles really, really well.
Yeah I don't like how the HRC stickers are at the moment. I need to get some bigger ones and put them higher up. Any suggestions on where to get some that are decent sized and in the good design?

Regarding the brakes, after cleaning the pistons yesterday the front brakes feel a lot more powerful and the lever isn't soft like it was before. When I'm on uni holidays I'll probably bleed the brakes and perhaps consider sticking braided lines on it.

I've done almost all of the work myself, which has not only saved me an immense amount of money but has provided me with a great amount of experience and knowledge.

That's really good to hear.

I'm not a big fan of peeps just paying others to sort out issues/upgrades. The reality is that most peeps are more than capable of sorting it themselves with the help of good reference material (haynes manual etc), a bit of time and the right tools.

What are your thoughts on the bike (power difference aside) compared the cbr250?

I've still got the CBR250RR (it's for sale at the moment) and I rode it the other day to get it registered.

I think it's a very fun bike to ride, whereas the RVF is a much more serious bike.
Alot of fun can be had on the CBR, as you can rev the guts out of it without going too fast (as opposed to the RVF which picks up speed so easily), however I think it is too light (not fun to ride on highways when trucks go past).
The CBR is also really easy to throw around and is very forgiving. But in saying this, I think the handling is way too light, whereas the RVF ensures a confidence within you when you're in a turn.

Also, the brakes on the RVF are MUCH more powerful! When I rode the CBR I thought the front brakes had failed.

There are plenty of guys out there that go out and buy the fastest bike they can and pay people to do everything to their bikes. I strongly believe that although there are mechanics which do great jobs and have a great deal of knowledge, noone in the world cares about your bike like you do!

1990 model. I'm asking $5000 for it so by the time it gets there it would be well over $6k. You could probably buy 4 of them for that price in the UK
