NC30 Problem !

Post by lazyboydobby »

i went out for a ride on my nc30 last night i had been out for 5 - 10min before i smelt a smauldering smell ( burning plastic). once i shot back home i realise that the wiring on the right hand side of the bike had melted reveling 3 wires. this was very close to a connection block. if you where looking at the bike from the right had side there is a screw that connects the fairings to the frame. the burn was about 3" below this. can anyone assit why?

just to much heat from the engine??

Thanks

99% that it's going to be the Generator connector-block.. it has 3 yellow wires in it that comes from the altenator.

Test all of the charging system.

How old's the battery on the bike...?

Yeah, the generator's on the left, but the wires go between the V of the engine to the right hand side where they connect into the rest of the wiring harness.

The plastic coating on the wires hafe burn off completley. would i be better buying a new wiring loop or just replacing the 3 wires? do u think it could be the heat of the engine if the wiring come though the middle of the V?

No it's an electrical problem.

Very common for these to burn out..

Check the altenator output with a multimeter.

Put the meter onto AC volts and measure between each wires at 5000rpm and see how many volts you have.

If this is ok, connect it back upto the reg/rec, after replacing the connectors and see what voltage your getting there.

How old is the battery?
