NC35 doesn't want to wake up??

Hey guys

So I currently own a 94 RVF and for the past few weeks (when I have time to work on it) been having a hell of a time trying to get her to start up (she has sat for 2 months though)

I've checked the fuses and all are good, turns over but nothing. Replaced the battery, checked the fuel lines and fuel tap, drained the tank and carbs and refilled the tank with new fuel. I've heard the odd pop through the exhaust while attempting to start it and today I had a flame shoot out of the can when I tried to start it.

Ordered new spark plugs and reg rec, starter relay (just to try) so will test them when I receive them. Anyone experienced this sort of thing before?

Id put my money on the plugs aslong as everythiing else is ok, vacume pipe etc

It`s 100% plugs,mine stood for 2 years ,replaced the plugs it fired straight away

will be stoked if it just the plugs...fingers crossed and touch wood...she needs to gimme some action sometime

Mine was sat for 6 years and I had the same as you.Took the carbs off and all the floats were stuck.Cleaned it out and she went first time.

Good plugs are essential on these bikes, there killed easily from flooding and dont last too long either. That said its not gunna hurt cleaning out the carbs, theres bound to be crap in there and more than often not setup right. If all is good it should start with full choke and throttle

yeh a carby clean is on the cards

also as a general rule how resistive should the choke cable be? feels like i'm fighting with mine (six fingers on the thing to wrestle it up)...i know some resistance is natural in cabling but this seems a bit over the top or i'm just too weak

If it has been standing for so long, especially with fuel in it the carbs are probably all gummed up with old fuel residue.

Remove the carbs, invert them and remove the float bowls.

Clean everything out with carb cleaner, remove jets and soak then blast all passageways through with compressed air.

Inspect / clean plugs and you should be good to go.

Choke is probably sized, it should move easy.

As all the others have said, definitely plugs. The above sounds are usually what happen when the plugs are weak or flooded.

For the stuck choke, try a new choke cable and if that doesn't fix it spray all of the choke linkages on the carbs with some wd40.
