nc30 ticking noise

Post by wbdappa »

hi guys im new to here. jus wondered if ne1 culd help me a bit. i jus got a vfr400 nc30 and i love it to bits. only thing is im getting an ticking noise which sounds like its coming from the top left side of the bike. its definatley coming from the engine somewhere. it also sounds as if it gets quicker when the bike goes up the rev range. also it doesnt seem to do it until the bike is warm. its really buggin me and now starting to worry me. thx guys.

where abouts in the engine, it could be valve clearances, but these usually get quieter when its warmer.

it sounds as if its comming from the front top left of the cylinders. i cant really notice it above 6-7,000 and it doesnt seem to get louder as i accelerate. it seems to go in time with the rpm.

thx

Check the exhaust manifolds where they fit the cylinder head probably blowing.

PS. Welcom to the forum Butty.

It could be valve clearances then.

Theres easy enough to check.

If there is too much clearance you get a tappy sound.

and would this only happen when it gets warm? also i think my bike gets very hot. i mean i cn feel the heat on my legs and i can barely just touch the frame without it burning. it runs just over half the dial. and seems to go up wen in traffic. i changed the rad water and its only gettin hot since then. i may have an airloc? is thier a correct way to fill the rad.

thx for the help guys.

ah more problems being introduced...

valve clearances usually quieten up when it gets warm but its worth checking.

NC30's get red hot anyway.

To bleed the rad.

Start and run the bike with the rad cap off! wait till the temp gets to half way then snap the throttle to 5000rpm and let it settle, do this 4 times.

This will purge the air from the bike, let it cool down to totally cold and top the coolant back up... then replace the cap, make sure the expsantion bottle is set to max and your good to go.
