Hi I’m new to this forum and don’t really know anything about my bike. I have been given an exhaust system and was told it was a full race system it stainless steel and all connections are with springs there isn’t a baffle inside the silencer. I have fitted this to my bike and it feels like it has more power and certainly louder. My question is, is this ok to run like this or should i do some other mod to it? I have been reading about the jets, mine must be standard and how would you know if they where not? And could a complete novice be able to do some of the mods?

Hi Neil, if you have time to visit a dyno place near you then go for it. Dyno readings of your current engine settings will help you a lot more to start with before any further mods performed and even in DIY mode.

It is not easy to tell from just a question. Dyno place that have good quality staff with truly knowledge will help you more.

Also, most of the people on this forum started as "novice" once...so some of us would say yes, it it possible to DIY. But some tried and failed and those would say No, not possible to DIY.

And buy a Haynes manual, good literature to start with gaining knowledge if interested of course :grin:

Thanks i will check that out, would it be best to service it before it goes in?

Hi Neil, welcome along.

Generally speaking the bike is set up for a standard system and should need re jetted with you change the exhaust. In saying this whenever i fitted my system first time i got the same running. went well but i always wanted to dyno it too.

It wouldn't do any harm in servicing the bike before it goes onto the dyno. Air, oil and plugs would be a good start.

If you take it to the dyno, they will usually want to take the carbs on and off so it maybe a good idea to get a set of new carb rubbers. if you, or the previous owner hasn't changed them then their gonna be rock solid and near enough impossible to get them seated.
