Bandit 400 Ignition Issues ???

Post by maderdog_1024 »

Hey, i recently bought a 1992 bandit 400 70th anniversary edition. GSF400-Z
The previous owner swapped out the engine for a newer 1993 engine GSF400-P
It does not run and ignition is all over the place.

After reading a post on here my next step is to swap the timing gear from the old engine to the new one. And re check ignition is this correct ?

The CDi is the two plug type.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,
Youve got all the answers you need, in 93 they changed the cdi and trigger + other stuff to bring the engines within the 53bhp limit, so to run the newer motor with the original cdi you will need to swop the trigger from a pre 93 engine. If you aint got the original from the first motor i think ive got one somewhere.
Welcome and good luck Chris.

I have changed the timing wheel and cleaned out my carbs, it started eventually and it revs nice and smooth.

cant believe the cost of spark plugs these days..... £8 each for the 400 bandit !!!

Just got to tidy up the wiring and its MOT time.

Will have more annoying questions soon :-)

Cheers

Mike
