Hi everyone. Having problems with my rvf in the higher gears which I think is down to fueling! I want to change the filter but been told by david silver you can't just buy the filter, you have to buy the whole fuel tap for nearl 150 quid all in! Anybody know a cheaper way for me to sort this out?

can't you use an inline filter?

But what makes you think the problem is with your fueling?

Well david silver said it is an unlined filter but they only sell it as a whole. I put a different engine in my bike a week ago and have had it checked by a mechanic that balanced the carbs for me. Runs really well in low gears and around town but when I get onto a nice big road it seems to struggle to get up to speed and it just feels like it's not getting the fuel it needs. Also when I blip the throttle to drop a gear there is nothing there I have to twist the throttle a few times before the engine revs. My mechanic said it either sounds like fuel filter or plugs but the engine only recently had plug change

Is the fuel tap ok? also check the vacuum hose that goes from the fuel tap to the No.3 cylinder (I think it's No.3)..

Sometimes the wall of the vacuum hose gets soft (usually when warm) and constricts when you take the revs up... the result is not enough fuel gets to the carbs...

My bike blew up late last year due to my own stupidity which is why I changed the engine. Before it blew the petrol tap worked fine. The vacum hose and it's connector were replaced when the new engine went in so I can't see it being that but will check. There was an amount of petrol left in the tank for a fair few months so I don't know if this would affect the filter or not? I have been through two tanks full of fuel and it's still doing it. I thought maybe the problem would flush out!!

That is a dud diagnosis! Take it to a mechanic that knows something about these bikes perhaps.

Fuel filter would be the last thing I would suspect, which you virtually confirm as it was fine on your last engine...

Yes it worked on my old engine but as the tank was stood with fuel in it for nearly a year couldn't this cause the filter to clog
