VFR NC30 Oil Leaking
Hey all, I've recently been baffled by what my project NC30 is doing. The engine is running again, but I've found that there is oil spraying (yes spraying) out from the a small hole in the cylinder head. Any ideas what was meant to go in between what I assume to be the holes where the rocker arms attach to. Kind of in an inverted triangle with the mystery hole at the bottom and as far as I'm aware only the front cylinder head although it could be both, I can't say I've looked for it on the rear head. At first I'd assumed that there would be a oil pressure sensor supposed to be there, but nope!
I'll try to find a picture to clear things up.

Many thanks,
Mike

Thats the Spark Plug Drain hole, theres one for each cylinder (whats in the front one? Basically lets water / condensation etc out as there deeply recessed in the engine.
Looks like your rockerbox isn't sealing and the oils coming out and going down the sparkplug hole then leaking out of the drain.
Have you had the rocker box off? One of the rubber gaskets might not be in place properly.

Re: VFR NC30 Oil Leaking
Many thanks for the advice, I'll take a look now.
The rocker box has been off, just done the valve clearances. I'll take a look for any oil in the spark plug recess. But I would have thought that if there was oil leaking out from there, oil would be leaking out of the hole. Not being sprayed out.
Many thanks,
Mike

Depends how bad the leak is.
Hopefully you havn't cracked anything / overtightenend it.
If i recall correctly theres a rubber grommet above the spark plug tubes that the rockerbox sits onto, if thats missing / fell into the engine you'll have probs too.
Let me know what you find :)

Re: VFR NC30 Oil Leaking
All sorted, you were indeed correct about there being a rocker box not sealing correctly. The gasket had folded over itself as I tried to squeeze it through the gap in the radiators. Bit the bullet and removed them, much easier... I suppose the Haynes manual was onto something there...
Many thanks,
Mike
