NC30/NC35 rear shock
So today I phoned around for prices on rebuilt NC rear shocks and the best price I got was R1500(Rand or ZAR - our local currency) which is around 125 pounds.
Then I found a guy who's breaking some NC30 and NC35 race bikes and he's got some 'as is' units that are, to his knowledge good as they all came off bikes that were in use on track... he wants R750 which is around R60 pounds... he said he's got standard units that have been rebuilt for track as well as aftermarket units for track.. all same price..
Now my question is.. what should I look out for? will there be any tell-tail signs by looking at something off the bike that may indicate that it'll will be in need of a rebuild .. I know rust/pitting will be an obvious bad sign...anything else?

Ok, so I bought a rear shock for my bike. I went with an early model CBR600 shock that's been rebuilt and modified to fit an NC 30. The guy said there's not much difference apart from a bit of ride height advantage. So I'll see how it fits and rides... The shock has been rebuilt for track so I hope it's not too bad for road use...

If its anything like the modified CBR600 shock on my NC29 it makes the bike loads better with the fact it raises the rear end up :) Nice having some adjustment also on compression/ rebound

The shock seemed a bit longer when I put it next to the std NC35 shock.. like by a few mm. But it's hard to say now that it's in the bike... It does seem a bit soft when I sit on the bike... it seems to sag quite a bit.. but the ride definitely seems better.. seems to handle the uneven roads and bad surfaces a lot better than the NC35 shock did... Hard to compare though because I rode with a leaking shock for way too long...
I don't think it is a modified CBR 600 shock.. it just looks like a std NC30 shock... so I don't know what part of it could possibly be from a CBR600... either way doesn't matter.. all i really wanted was something I could afford and this was it...

Not familiar with a CBR600 shock but it does look like and NC30 shock.
Is there a schrader valve in the end of the reservoir, when shocks are rebuilt they normally fit a schrader to recharge the nitrogen?
Tried adjusting the preload to get a bit less sag?
I normaly amin for about 25-30mm of rider sag on rear.

Yes it has a schrader valve and the guy said it's for filling with nitrogen.
The preload seems to be on its max already.. but I'll check it again...

Ok so I had another look and having the ridden the bike for a few days now.. I'm convinced it's much better... It's not as soft as I initially thought... but I'm still not sure there's an increase in ride height...
