Any 5 pin, mine is from a 2001 model from memory.

I'll try to remember to take a photo and label the pins for you when I get home from work tonight.

In lieu of a photo cos it was dark when I got home last night from work, here is a drawing. for some reason I still had this in my wallet from almost 12 months ago...

Hold the rectifer towards you, with the pins oriented as per the picture. I've written the wire colors from my bike, so I assume yours will be the same.

went to put my rectifier on my mates bike to see if it cured his running problems and struggled to get it off as the plug as all gnarly and burnt to the rec!!! so probably a good job his was duff or i would never have noticed mine was on melt down as its still charging the battery

Any hows - heard these R6s ones tend to be a better option - any one know does a 1999 one do the job?

Any of the 5 pin ones but i think it was from 2005 onwards that they changed to 6 pin so be careful. I found out the hard way and it was advertised as a 5 pin but was 6 pin when i received it so you have been warned

Seems my cheap Chinese Reg/rec seems to on the way out I think as its only out putting 13.5 volts at 3000rpm whi9ch is down from what it has been outputting from what I remeber, its lasted nearly a year. Anyhow was going to get another before it causes trouble and remembered this thread.

Questions, most on ebay dont show the number of pins and most of the earlier years seem to only have three white pins as far as I can see, maybe just bad photos so cant be sure. So can anyone show what the contacts look like in a photo for a known working example for an NC29? Also regarding the plugging in, do I have to strip and replug the harness end, how do you do it? finally going from the diagram above, three yellows in the bottom, does it matter which yellow goes where?

any help please.

Cut the plug off and use female spade connectors. It doesn't matter which yellow wire goes where. It might also be a good idea to do some generator and wiring checks to eliminate other causes, the haynes manual has all the details.

1999-2004 R6 regs will be fine, here's a pic of a 2003 unit:

Thanks for the extra info Cammo, it will be needed now.

As predicted. my system went down on Friday while doing 70mph (cough) in the fast lane of Washington Highway, just passing a coach and the bike splutted and everything appeared to die suddenly, luckily had enough momentum to pass the coach and get off the road down a slip road, scary moment. no phone, no worky bike and stuck with no hope of a bump start (although I tried) as I was in the lowest part of Sunderland with miles of up hill in front and behind me to get home, after an hour I got the battery out found a bus stop and sweated in leathers my way home on a crowded bus!

The battery took an age to charge and went back to pick my bike up, hoping it was still there in the middle of no where, sort of. it started first time, phew!

Now I am running my bike on a dodgy rectifier until the replacement arrives, just charging the battery every night, hope I dont bugger it as I need the bike for work im sort of stuck doing this. I did check the wiring and earths where I could and they seem fine. Have got to check the alternater when I get time later this week.

BTW, the rectifier readings dont appear right hence why i suspect this unit is to blame, im getting only a good reading on the middle yellow (1+3), the rest are dead and pin 1+5 gives a reading of 12.47.

thanks

dave
