Petrol tank capacity

Post by Superjack44 »

Does anyone know how many litres a superfour petrol tank holds.
I fancy touring on my little 92 superfour up to the northwest highlands ofscotland and fuel stations can be scarce so knowing how many litres it holds would be useful.
I filled the tank and went for a run did 253 kilometres and filled up again 10.27 litres converting that to mpg = 69mpg I am well happy with that.
I managed this figure by travelling at no more than 50 to 60 mph and running with a group of older bikers.

My tank holds exactly 18 liters of fuel. From completely empty to filled to the edge. But I don't think you will ever get al the 18 liters out by riding. When I refill it's never more than 12 liters.
I don't know if the later models have a different fuel tank, mine is a 1992 nc 31

4.76 gallons or 18 ltrs, is what it holds from completley empty. (dry tank)

I normaly have to hit my reserve at about 150 - 160 miles, leaving about 3 litres in the tank.
I then fill up to the top about 17 - 18 quids worth, I worked it out to be around 50mpg.

So you are getting very good mpg. I reckon if I rode untill it was dry I would get about 200 miles.

I really have to check my fueltap and tank. I do about 20km/liter. (50mpg is about 18km/liter). And I have to hit my reserve at about 210-230 km. And everytime it has to go to reserve, it stutters quite badly and sometimes even stalls completely, before coming back to life again. Very annoying, and possibly dangerous. I hope I can get it sorted before the Dutch TT.

I always refill after 200 kms and never have to bother with the reserve, but have gone to 217 kms without reserve whilst touring in France. Checked my general riding miles per gallon and git 59 mpg.

By any chance after seeing this post, do you know if the bike (CB400 superfour 1992 model) takes unleaded fuel? In my country by next year, they are no longer going to import normal fuel (LRP) so something must be done if the bike does not accept unleaded fuel, due to European laws.
Thanks

I use unleaded in my 92 superfour and as far as i'm aware it has always run on unleaded. I always run to around 200 kms before refilling the tank and if I think i'm going to go a bit over that I will always switch to reserve at some point beforehand (around 190kms), therefore avoiding the stalling mid ride when it runs out at the reserve point.
