Revcounter can't keep track.

Post by karl BKK »

Just wondering if anyone has any diagrams or pictures of the rev counter wiring for a rvf (my is a vfr but with a rvf loom and clocks) It would be nice to know how high the engine is reving when changing gears but it's not completely necessary as i don't look at it much on the road or track :D

it's just really slow to respond, sitting at idle on my drive way it will blip upto 5000rpm with no problems at all, haven't reved her harder on the drive way yet. but out on the road the rev counter barely nudges over 4000rpm even when it's time to change gear......

Did you change the rev counter too? It sounds like you have as the RVF & VFR Rev counters are different and dont work with each other.

The RVF tacho is pointing straight down at 0rpm whereas the NC30 is more angled :)

If you have the right tacho sounds like you might have a dodgy earth

Have the pickups in the engine been changed to reflect the RVF loom??
VFR has one pickup - RVF has 2 - or the other way round..but they are not the same

Sorry for the delay in replying, yep, my rev counter points straight down, i'll try and check the pick up points this weekend, anyone know for sure if a RVF has one or two pick up points for the rev counter and where i can find them?

Karl :)

bascially - if you have a std VFR engine and all that was done was to change the loom and clocks then you have to get into the right hand side cover and swap in the pickups from an RVF.

Thank you, it does have the original engine still (NC30). I'll have to hunt down a diagram of where to locate the pickups and gubbins that i will need. :)

On the right hand side of the motor you have the clutch and on front of that you have the timing gubbins. Under there is what you want. You'll need to check the fiches to confirm -

hang on...

Right on.

The VFR has two pickups - part ref 30300-MR8_003 Pulse generator assembly
The RVF has the one pickup - ref is 30300-MR8-901

So, get your hands on the RVF gear and you are jammin...
