Re: Speedo no worky
have you tried disconnecting the cable at the gearbox end and then attaching it to a drill and seeing if the speedo works?
Other than that, disconnected at the top end, attached at the bottom and seeing if the cable spins up when the bikes ridden? - this might not work cos of the inner cable riding up and not connecting at the bottom end. you could do it stationary if you get the back wheel off the ground though.
Or, matchstick in the speedo head and give it a quick spinny flick to see if it registers any speed?
If it is the speedo itself, i think the speedo is just the rotating magnet on the disk and tensioned by a spring type of arrangement, it could be that something is sticking in the speedo itself. I had one on a mini once that had a slightly bent spindle and would snap the cable when it got to 80. It could be something similar.
Can you get a cheap bicycle speedo? :D

which now leaves... the speedo its self......
the magnets can fall off and render it useless.
go for a quick one round the block. note down the odometer klm/mileage b4 you go.. then when you get back.
has it changed?

Re: Speedo no worky
Mileage doesnt change when its being ridden.
Plugged it into the motrax cable converter today and it worked for about 5 seconds before it stopped again
Its confusing the heck outta me. Gonna remove clocks at the weekend and hit them with a large mallet.

Re: Speedo no worky
lol.... me thinks you need a new .oO(they dont make em new any more).... another internal speedo.
email GF as he removes them from the race bikes. see if he has just the speedo on its own, let him know the odo klms so he or you can match the milage-ish.
just swap the internals...
i am on my 4th speedo in 5yrs! buggered the 1st 2 up by messing about with removing disks. 3rd needle started to bounce, then a week later stopped working. number 4 has a bit of needle bounce..

Re: Speedo no worky
I got this to put on my track bike when used on the road....
http://www.saverstore.com/productinfo/P ... trat=15603
and it tells you where speed cameras are, bonus! no wavy needles either
Its own web site is http://www.indic8tor.com/
If you subscribe to the updates its £30 per annum, but I don't and it works fine.

Re: Speedo no worky
A possible help -
How much of the inner cable - the drive wire is poking out of the top of the outer cable? It should be about 15mm - to engage the speedo drive. If it is much less - ie: less than 10mm - you'll get no or intermittent drive.
What happens – especially if you have been moving the drive cable round is the outer sleeve partially pulls out of the cast housing that bolts on to the final drive housing – effectively making the outer too long.
Simple to cure – push it back in – until you get a full 15mm of inner cable showing – job done – fixed!
