sp question

a mate has just bought a gsxr400, he thinks it might be an sp model.

how can i identify it from other gsxr400's - visually? what should i be looking for?

SP models have fully adjustable forks and throttle position sensor (small black box on left side of carbs).
You will also notice is has a very long first gear (upto 70mph in first).

Iv had a ride on one of these and although its great having a long 1st gear your thru the rest of the gears like they're going out of fashion.

Is anyone up on how the SPII differs from the SP by chance? I was snooping around on some Japanese web pages and after using Google translastions it seemed to say the SPII had the same transmission as a standard GSXR400R.

sp gearbox 90mph in first. Sp2 still has a tall box but a not quite as tall. It makes it almost rideable in town compared to the sp which is awful in town or traffic.

Any engine or CDI difference between the SP and SPII that you know of?

none apart from the sp2 was later model. certain ones had 53 hp rather than 59 hp
