There are some German units around these parts that are available for the same price as the Chinese units. I'm tempted to try one, only because I have a single headlight.

I might have a couple at home from when I rebuilt my UK bike up to spec (previous owner had jap light units fitted)
If you're still after some I'll dig them out.

just recently fitted a relay and H4 bulbs. well worth the effort, didn't take long at all

Used the H4 philips x-treme bulbs, so impressed with these bulbs Im fitting them to my car next week!

I have two jap spec bulbs, make me an offer!

Good post Neosophist. Thanks for the info. I haven't had achance to ride my bike in the dark yet so Im not sure if the Jap bulbs are adequate. I need to get a H4R bulb asap to get my bike thru its MoT next month. Il look at modifying the lights/installing the relay during the summer/autumn ready for winter riding.

Yes.. Philips Xtreme bulbs ROCK.. they make a world of difference.

You know you can just modify a H4 bulb to fit? Snip the two lower tabs off a H4 bulbs and put a nail across the back of it to hold it in place... it'll get you through an MOT just fine :-)

Only problem without adding a relay for the H4 bulbs is that prolonged use will likely melt your lightswitch overtime.

This is becuase the standard 35 watt bulbs run through the switchgear, the 55 watt UK bulbs have a seperate relay to handle the extra current.

If you really want the 35watt Jap bulbs Cradley Kawasaki sell them for £7.95 on ebay :-) (the zxr400 have the same bulb)

The Relay Mod and some Philips X-tremes will cost you about £30 and will be the best money you can spend on your bike :-)

You can get Metal LaserCut Adapter rings from off ebay that convert the bulbs to save you using a nail.. but I just snip the tabs off and use a nail for mine.

H4 Osram nightbreakers here as was impressed with them in the car. Only slightly blue-ish tinted glass with silver ends so don't stand out at all but v bright and only a slightly more white beam so perfect for what I wanted to achieve

I used to use Nightbreakers but there not half as good as Philips Xtreme :)
