NC30: Original plastics and paintwork

So, I just noticed the sticker under the seat. Looks like mine was an NH-177M, which http://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/Bvfr400r-mi.htm leads me to believe is black and silver.

My tank and fairings are red and black, though, like the NH-1 on the above link. I have two questions:
1. How do I know if my current plastics are genuine Honda or aftermarket?
2. Not that it's going to happen, but how much would it cost to get the plastics and tank sprayed to original colours?
3. If I didn't want to bother spraying aftermarket plastics, how much would it cost to get original parts (let's say from ebay/breaker rather than a dealer).

Basically, how much to get the bike original? ;)

Welcome to the forum Topper..

I reckon we need pics to start with to show what it looks like now.

1:: The OE panels are made of thick plastic and have proper mountings etc. the lower panesl have some foam on the insides and the seat panels are in 3 pieces and also have foam near where your thighs would be on the bike.

2:: Anywhere from £200 (DIY) to £800 including wheels and a proper decent job.

3:: o/e parts are now getting very very rare. The plan for most is to buy a set of std panels in whatever colour they can find as long as theya re in good conditon. Then get them painted.

To get your bike in that colour scheme and original will not be cheap..that is one of the rarer schemes!

Am sure others will pop in with ideas.but this is the place to be to get it sorted if you want to. Stick a post in the for sale/wanted section and see if anyone has the panels you need and...

Hiya, as mark has said put up a pic for us to see if its genuine.
I suspect its likely if not showing the correct sticker, its more likely been dropped and replaced bodykit.
Genuine plastic will have the date mouldings on the inside, and often part numbers too and feel quality. aftermarket feel cheap.
to repaint to the OE scheme - may be cheaper and less stress to sell the bike, and buy one thats got the correct plastics, however if its the silver black scheme your after then they do seem to be harder to come by than later scheme's
By rule the early RWB scheme like the RC30 and the silver and black with the red triangle do seem the most sought after. these are 89 schemes

The lettering on yours looks wrong and the lines aren't quite right.

plus it looks like the lowers and mids are one piece and not separate panels from the pic, i also bet the nose is aftermarket too. seat unit may be genuine just painted.
that is not original equipment sorry.

So no surprises there then. The only mystery is, why is the paint code under the seat, different to the colour on the tank? I hope it wasn't so badly smashed up by a previous owner that they changed the tank as well. I suppose the under-seat tray might have been changed, and I have to say the bike is generally in great condition and gets lots of positive comments.

Do Honda have a repository of frame numbers / paint codes?

it will be different because when it was crashed it was easier to theme a scheme based around the tank.
if someone crashed a NH196 scheme (early RC30 colour scheme) and struggled to source an identical scheme tank and plastics (as they would do so) it would be easier to pick up a cheap red / black tank, then paint the plastics to suit if you know what i mean. the sticker under the seat on the subframe wouldnt change unless someone swopped the subframe too if it got bent in a crash (often happens)
i wouldnt trust what either the sticker says, only the log book for now. dont think there is a repo to find out what it should be, only way to be sure nowadays i think would be to buy a truested one owner bike, or a UK spec bike if you can find one, then you know what scheme it should be,
makes no odds anyway the vast majority of NC's out there are crashed / repaired

Could have been changed to match the plastics, it could have had a dent in it, from being dropped at standstill, coulda just gone rusty! lots of reasons :) More than likely what CRM has said though!
