2 Questions: Indicators and Water pump

Post by ybanrab »

Hi All,
I got the opportunity to play a bit more with my NC30 project the other night and have a couple of minor issues.

First is the indicators. They do come on, but they're a bit hesitant. The flasher relay is a 2-pin unit, but it looks like the loom (and wiring diagram) seem to show 3 wires originally. Am I right in thinking that the 3-pin units are being driven via a signal from the CDI, which is the signal my loom isn't currently using? I rekon I probably just need to get a 3-pin relay and wire that back in?

Second is the water pump. The bike has been slowly leaking coolant for the past few months and it was either the drain bolt on the pump cover or the pump cover itself. I took the cover off last night to look at the condition of the seal. All seems good and I suspect I'd got dirt into the drain bolt, so its time to put it together. Haynes recommends a new pump cover seal and mine seems flat in it's groove, but I can't find one on EBay, Dave Silvers or Wemoto. Should I just smear a layer of blue hylomar on and bolt the cover back on?

Thanks

Barny

Theres a drain hole on the bottom of the pump.. if thats leaking from there the bearings have probably gone in the pump itself.

Hesitating indicators is a common problem with nc30's, it's nearly always a gunked up indicator switch.

Take it apart remove the grease/dirt build up on every part and give it a thorough clean using wd40 or electrical contact spray. That should get it working properly!

The flasher relay won't matter if it's a 2 or 3 pin, it's driven only by electrical circuit (via the switch) not the cdi.
