Lap Timers for Track Days

Nothing more to say really, if it's been organised it'll be here.

Lap Timers for Track Days

Post by CBR Monkey »

Hi guys, I am planning on doing a few track days this year and was thinking of getting a Lap Timer for the bike to see how I progress through the year. I was wondering if lap timers work on track days? I heard that they work from a becon that transmits from the pit wall but do these becons work for track days or is it just for proper race meetings?

I used to have a Kawasaki ZX6R that had a lap timer but I needed to press the button manually at the end of each lap and this was a nightmare to try and make sure it was consistent.

Any help/advice much appreciated!

You are forbidden to use lap timers on trackdays...The best way to do it is to get a camera and review the footage afterwards and time it yourself.

^^^^^^^ this

they tell you in the breifing they are not allowed, if they catch you at best they will ask for you to remove it...

at worst you loose your wristband and go home

I have a laptime on my bike, Its very bad to use it on a trackday but sometimes I accidentally press the button on exiting the pit...they work fine on track days just dont go blabbering about how uv cut ur time down 3 seconds to the officials

A few people have started using gps on their phones and downloading the software from racechromo. Not really looked into it properly yet as my phone is not compatible. It does a lot more than just lap times i think.

I have a starlane Stealth GPS laptimer on my race bike:
http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcy ... /576/37692" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've got it on a bracket and it is too much hassle to take it off for trackdays, I've not had anyone tell me to take it off at all and it has occasionally been turned on by accident when starting. I don't think you would be pulled up unless you are noted to be riding like a twat and then they find you have a laptimer, as long as you are being considerate to other riders and arent sitting people up to get that ideal laptime, I dont think there would be a problem.
