NC35 Gearbox

Post by TeamDragon »

Hi All :peace:

Owned an RVF400 NC35 for about 8years now, brilliant never had a major problem till now.
The Gearbox is rattling until put in gear, then jumps out of 5th+6th at high RPM.
Stripped down to find selector forks edges ground down by gears, shaft bearings seem fine, anyone have similar probs? Any ideas what could of caused this? (mechanical wise, changed down 3 gears far to quick  )

I have an old but complete VFR NC30 engine and box, can any of the gearbox parts [selector forks etc] be used in the NC35?

One last question if I may, where would you folk get the proper tools (peg sockets/spanners?) for engine mounts, clutch etc?

Thanks for your time

Some parts of the gearbox will be interchangeable. 5th and 6th gears are the same on both bikes so I would imagine that the associated parts are also. The main difference between the gearboxes is the gear ratios.

A look through the nc35 and nc35 parts books diagrams turn up the common parts. Both can be found here:

Alternatively you could just put the whole nc30 gearbox in (better ratios for racing, probably not best for the street).

The castelated sockets can be made by hacksawing up old sockets so that they fit the nuts. You can buy them new from honda but they are pricey.

Thanks mate, 8-)
If the whole NC30 gearbox was transfered would I need to use an NC30 clutch? Any other parts that will need transfering?
Not near the bike at the mo so can`t check but I fear it won`t be a simple swap, nothings ever that easy
Cheers for your help and patience
