NC30 engine overhaul/refresh

Post by Smoky » Wed Apr 28, 2010 2:09 pm

since my recent job change, my daily commute is now an extra 40 or so miles per day, and considering my clocks are reading sixty one thousand kilometres plus- id like to have my spare motor rebuilt so i can wring another sixty odd thousand kilometres of V4 goodness out of it.
question is.... where would be the best place? my local Honda garage charge £65 per hour labour, so thats out-
can anyone reccomend anywhere in particular? im in East London but dont mind shipping it off to somewhere thatll do a proper job...
thanks all!

how much do you reckon it is going to cost?

I expect that you are looking at over £500 for this, if not twice that.

I have an engine that I intend to fully refresh myself with new bearings, seals and so on - a lot of cash but then you have a motor that you can expect to be reliable for another tens of thousands of miles.

I recall a member on here, Jamboy, had his engine blueprinted and it was £1100+. It would be a peachy motor after that!

bloody hell lol, now thats a project :-)

problem is, i dont have a garage on anywhere i could pull an engine apart to refresh it- plus, i think the NC motor might be a little far out of my expertise range lol

what kind of parts would i need to source anyway? i know id need things like piston rings and such, but are there any other bits that are prone to wear? oil pump chain for instance?

I don't know to be honest! I'll be reading up on it when I get round to it - as in, when the pistons arrive and I have the bores sorted out. Until then the motor is sitting on my bench waiting for me....

I'd be looking at all the bearing shells, any seals in there, rings, valve springs and valves, gaskets etc.

If I was not going to do it myself, I would drop Mike @ BMC a line and ask him how much for a full refresh...he makes some great motors! (on here as rvfhonda)

Yeh mikes ur man, he knows v4's and if I had the money to get someone to build me an engine it would be him id send it too.

Im looking to build a race enigine this summer for my race bike, anyone know what were talking about for the new parts, bearings seals rings etc? also looking at getting cranks balanced at a local place and a few more trick bits
