nc23 clutch slip

Post by rigsby »

hi there,

Did my first race of the season at oulton last week . All was well apart from my clutch was slipping. The weired thing is after a recent bottom end rebuild including new plates its slipping. When i bought the bike the guy said he had fitted hd springs(bike has 60bhp). Also on a test day only a couple of weeks ago it was fine. I have made sure there is no adjustment on the cable and is fully disengaged when lever is out. It slipped like mad for the first 3 laps at oulton then it seemed to sort it self out and got better towards the end of the race. Let the bike cool down and restarted for second race and exactly same issue, slipped at first then got better towards end of race. I am running silkolene 10/40 oil. i do clutch less gear shifts up the box is this common practice or could it be causing a problem. Any ideas greatly received.
cheers rigs

hey mate,my race bike used to do the same thing.
pull all the plates out and check the clutch basket
you will most likely see wear from the plates that have been rocking back and forth on it
these can stop the plates from engaging when bad enuff...hence clutch slip
cheap fix is to get a small file and file the fingers smooth
and your clutch will be fine
i even went to the point of taking out the wear on the spring pedastalls
orr,buy a new basket....
also....get rid of the outer clutch fiber and its locating ring(its the 1 that looks like its half size as the others)and replace it with a number2 clutch fiber
that combined with your hd springs will give you a good clutch to race with.
hope that helps
