So after crashing the left side of my NC29, I need some fairings. I thought to get some aftermarket fairings, add some decals & clear coat and call it good.
I see that Skidmarx has some fairings available which are red fiberglass. Does anyone know if these are matte or gloss or matte finish? Has anyone added a clear coat on these fairings?? Does it look alright??
Any input is much appreciated!!!

Re: Skidmarx fairings - gloss or matte finish?
I brought some of those in black. They were gloss so guessing the red ones will be the same.
That said the finish on them were terrible!!! Some of the gelcoat had come away when they removed them from the mould therefore it was showing the white fibreglass underneath! These were new from Skidmarx themselves!!
There isnt too much in the way of choice around though.
If i had to i would buy them in the plain white which is cheaper, smooth the rough bits (easy work) as they obviously come straight out of the mould so aren't perfect and get them sprayed up. I wouldn't pay the extra money to get them with the red gelcoat.

Great info!! Sounds like if we do go the Skidmarx route we should get white.
How was the overall quality (fasteners, fit, durability)??

I was that annoyed with the finish i didn't want to mess around with them. I put them onto eBay and sold them. I used some other panels i got instead.
I have seen the same Skidmarx panels on another bike sprayed up and they looked a nice fit to be fair.

Gavin at Jap4performance should be able to help you out with standard f/g panels. Im sure they will be good quality too.

i am anti-fibreglass anything! especially if its partial panels. you can get away with all fibreglass panels on a bike, but 1/2 or 1 will not fit snug with the OEM ones.
for the cost of buying fibreglass panels, you can spend the same money finding original plastics and getting them re-sprayed/stickler up. and at least you KNOW they will fit with no dicking about!

Re: Skidmarx fairings - gloss or matte finish?
Trying to get my hands on some used OEM ones was my first thought.
I actually have a full set of OEM (75% are my original ones which are in average to good condition) and the other 1/4 I found on ebay UK and they are mint (however they are in the black & teal paint scheme whereas mine are in the urban tiger theme), luckily a friend of mine was able to ship them to me. I feel guilty sanding down those mint OEM black & teal fairings that I have now - but here in US I can't find any other set of used OEM.
I have tried GF but he doesn't have any used ones.
I talked to my hubby and we think the best idea will be to take the fairings that we have and paint them along with the tank. If at a later time I need more fairings I can deal with it then, but agree that trying to fit fiberglass and OEM plastic together is a recipe for disaster!!
Thanks for all the help!!

You wanna try finding a full set of original decals in the urban tiger colour scheme or a decent replica set, its verging on the impossible. But let us know if you have a secret supplier and you have a roaring business on your hands
