Re: Engine Rattle at LHS - video
In all honesty i havent spotted any vibrations when i've been running the engine... even in gear.
If i get time today i will go over to the inlaws to have a quick look at the clutch adjustment.
Cheers,
Adam.

Re: Engine Rattle at LHS - video
Could the lhs sound be getting caused by lack of petrol going into cylinder 1? i've just remembered that the no1. carb is pissing out petrol... could that be the potential cause of things? also would that have something to do with the engine trying to stall when i move the bike under its own power?
Adam.

Re: Engine Rattle at LHS - video
Stopped for lunch. So far I've taken off the camshaft cover and taken out each camshaft holder bolt on the inlet camshaft a refitted, they were all fine. Next I will do the same for the exhaust and then check for any excessive valve clearances. Then I will get the sump and side covers off.
Anyway, my second video is up, which shows how the noise is difficult to pinpoint.

Watching videos of piston slap, my bike does sound similar. Is riding with piston slap a bad idea? Is it likely to blow up at any point or will it just gradually get worse?

Try taking a flat head screwdriver to the engine, put your ear near the handle and listen... Tis how I narrowed it down to the left hand side...

Yeah....
Don't ride with piston slap else it might become piston snap.
Here's hoping it's not that, cos thats an engine out complete split job. Sadly something I have become annoyingly accustomed to. My record is now one day to remove, split, and reassemble an engine and have it back in the frame. Nothing to be proud of here...

Re: Engine Rattle at LHS - video
I've decided to just get an engine from GF and whack it in. I want to be back on the road! Haven't ridden since September, I'm only home now for 4 weeks and I've been itching for a ride.
I might carry on looking at the engine to see if I find the cause, just to see if it's repairable. I don't know if I'll bother splitting and selling it as I doubt most of it would sell, and the bits that do I would probably find useful myself.
Thanks for all the help guys, especially you greggo. It's been fun! Apart from in the wallet department.

Fairy nuff mate.
Still pull it apart and find the cuplrit. Well worth doing it from a learning perspective, and I'd love to know what it turns out to be!

Re: Engine Rattle at LHS - video
I have a friend who races cars and he's offered for me to take it over to him to look at it together, so I will probably do that. My old man hates the sight of oil in his garage so it would be a pain doing it here. Luckily he's been away for this little episode!
