Re: Guess what I'm doing??? (Ram-air on my VFR)
Not running after 4k hmmm not good.
when we do ours we pass the two slide tubes directly through the metal lower tray no T peice used basicly dril the tray to the hole size and just pull them through. the float vents T them together and bring them in through the engine breather hole (i think you have that already) but cut the back deflector out of the box in that area. Make sure all is sealed with regards to them as they will be balancing the presure out in the box, with that done there will be no issues with regards to ram air operating.
Something to check first is when you turn the ignition on is the fuel pump slowing down and stopping pumping when the carbs are full?
if no you have wrongly set needle heights/ dirt in needle valve or pump is faulty causeing the bike to flood.
Providing all other carb components are correct you should be in the ball park area with jet size to get you up and running with the size i supplied. As daft as it sounds but if you have been flooding it trying it out and starting and stopping it you may have done a plug or 2. do all the above checks and replace all plugs and make sure everything is sealed up.
If the carbs you are trying to use have been to messed about with you are going to have problems if you have a set of other carbs from a runner try them. High milage carbs never perform as well and if they have been tampered with many times over the years evern the best settings in the world struggle to get them as responsive as a good set.
Definatly though all things looking at the post seem to be in place as normal so i think you have a issue with something else. Give me a ring later on if you have no joy.

Re: Guess what I'm doing??? (Ram-air on my VFR)
Cheers for the help Chris. The fuel pump actually continues to pump even when the floats 'should' be full. The slide tubes were drilled into the rear of the air-box and the are t-pieced and into the rear of the box too. I'm going to have to get the silicone out and seal around the snorkel area as it's not 100% air tight. I don't think I've flooded it as it was only 1 cylinder and the leak appeared to have been coming from the bowl area. The carbs that I'm using I have owned for 4 years, and for eye they look fine. No apparent ovaling of the needle guide, no broken bits and not loose/worn bits. I'll be getting some carb cleaner today and cleaning everything from the fuel filters to the pilots. I might be the weekend before I get everything finished, but I'll be spending some time at it tonight.

the pump needs to come to a standstill you have something wrong there your either pumping into the cylinder or somewhere usualy for them pumps they start at speed fill the carbs then go to pulse ocaisionaly then nothing start the bike and you will hear it pulsing. Somtimes if the pump keeps running it could be the oposite you may have no fuel at the pump?
silly question have you got the pump the right direction?

Why is it necessary to drill the rear upper airbox and put in those two breather hoses? What happens if you just vent them to outside or just leave them hanging?

the air box needs to be pressurised.RVFJE wrote:Why is it necessary to drill the rear upper airbox and put in those two breather hoses? What happens if you just vent them to outside or just leave them hanging?

I'm sure the fuel lines are in the right order as it's pushing too much fuel (well, that was my thought anyway) As for the over-fuelling, it might be that there is a sticking or dirty float valve so the fuel feed is not being shut off. More investigation over the weekend and hopefully hitting the track shortly and see how it gets on.chrisxr wrote:the pump needs to come to a standstill you have something wrong there your either pumping into the cylinder or somewhere usualy for them pumps they start at speed fill the carbs then go to pulse ocaisionaly then nothing start the bike and you will hear it pulsing. In a way, yes. My take on it was that to get all the slides moving together it's best that they are recieving equal pressures and the best way to achieve that is by feeding them into an area of equal pressure.hannakournikova wrote:the air box needs to be pressurised.RVFJE wrote:Why is it necessary to drill the rear upper airbox and put in those two breather hoses? But if you don't have Ram Air is it necessary?
I have a Tyga Carbon airbox but not a Ram Air system. Tyga just told me to leave those two hoses to vent to outside the airbox.
Any comments on that appreciated.

OK, I have had a moment of eureka. DO NOT KINK THE FUEL LINE OR YOUR BIKE WILL NO RUN!!! Yes, the fuel pump inlet hose was kinked so the reason it wouldn't run/start was the kinked hose. All will be re-fitted tomorrow and just make sure that was all that the problem was. Fingers crossed.

What way did this bike end up, did you get it running good?
Did it need much time spent on a dyno?
