1989 NC30 Restoration


So this was the bike before i started. It now sits in the workshop as a chassis with engine and swing arm.
First things first i got the fairing off and sent away to http://www.motopaint.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a complete overhaul. it was pretty badly cracked in places and need a lot of plastic welding. But from what i have seen things are looking good.


As for everything else I sent a load of stuff away to be powder coated like the sub frame, handle bar mounts, bar ends, bottom and top yokes, fairing mount, and finally side stand.
the plan was to restore a it back to, or as close to factory standard, but there a a few aftermarket parts making there way on to the bike. So i've got myself set of the Tyga step kit rearsets. A Nitron shock, one with a ride height adjuster, which gets round trying to put a shorter dog bone link on. as for the rest of it. it's completely standard.
Just had the exhaust repaired by Big Stink, and have to say it looks superb, when compared to the before shots, it's a complete transformation.

Anyway hope I haven't bored anyone too much with all that waffle. will update as when bits get done.

Keep up the updates, interesting to see how someone else rebuilds an nc (in the best colours!) What sort of mileage has it done by the way?

looks brilliant, 2 things i would say need changind, the front mud guard should be white.
and personally i dont like the indicatiors blue, i think they would look better in white or black.
but thats just me being picky, thats a good job you've done.

The mileage on the bike is 46,638km (28,979 miles) which is a lot. looking at the bike when i got it, it was apparent that it had, had a hard life. but intend to change that!
As for the front mudguard, Motopaint have been instructed to put it back to it's original colour, White.
as for the indicators, I'm sure the cyan blue is the correct and original colour. I see Big stink, you have kept your indicators blue. and that's what I intend to do.
Managed to get the pistons out of the brake calipers, this weekend, using the old air compressor technique, so they are now ready for blasting and spraying. Next job is to strip the forks down, ready to have the the stantions re-chromed as they are pretty badly pitted. I was going to use http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who are charging £70 per leg? not sure if that's good or not? as for the legs, going to re-spray them.
I was considering changing the fork springs, for some stiffer ones, but can only find Hagon and Hyperpro that do them. I'm not sure if it's worth the extra cost or whether a simple strip down , replace the lower bushes and put some better weight oil will do the job?
any thoughts?

Rick Oliver does a fork upgrade kit inc springs, seals and oil thats well proven.
