First time carb removal/install...(almost) complete success!

As I had to take my carbs off anyway to sort out my sticky front chokes, I decided to do the little mods as detailed in Dataracers guide in this section. (Excellent job on the guide by the way!)

All went well, got them off quite easily, contacted Rick and got some of his RO needles and new float bowl gaskets sent out to me. (top bloke, great advice!) Went to local Shop and got some 120 jets, so gone up from 115/118 to 118/120
Cleaned carbs out fitted the new bits, drilled slides etc and all was good!!

Now while I was waiting for the bits from Rick, did some reading up on other peoples experiences on refitting carbs, it wasnt looking too promising so decided to wait till I had a whole day off to attempt this apparently horrendous job!
Today was that day and using the original serviceable rubbers I gave it a go..............Woohoo! Fronts in first, little squizz of WD40 on the rears and with a gentle manouvering of a screwdriver they plopped in on the first attempt!!

After I'd stopped doing backflips round the garden and randomly kissing people I went to tighten the carb rubbers clips and broke the first one straight away!!
Thankfully the mech at the local shop has an NC and is bringing in a new clip for me tomorrow! Yay!

Tightened all the others up ok, so thought ahh what the hell, put it all back together and it fired up as soon as the float bowls had refilled, readjusted the idle and shes sounding sweet as a nut!
Will fit the other clip tomorrow and then out for a run!

Just wanted to say that using the info and contacts on 400greybike, this job that I was dreading was all in all pretty painless!!

If youve been putting off doing this, do it, you might just surprise yourself!!

kool beans , snice when a plan comes together , i wasnt lookin forward to my first carb removal ,altho i had no idea what a bitch it can be to get them back on at the time, there is deffo a knack to it and the whole process isnt a prob no more , been on an off countless times since

Glad it well for you, I need to have a look in my carbs and give them a fettle but I've been putting the job off because I know they'll be a pig to get back on.
Your success might just inspire me to have a dabble.

Well I have to say your a lucky boy. I remember the first time well! In the end, after an entire week of trying on and off, walking away before I poured petrol over the whole bike and torched it (wouldn't have been a smart move as it was in my hallway for three days!) new carb rubbers etc. I resorted to brute force and ignorance and just stood on the carb tray with a piece of wood and jumped up and down They offered plenty of resistance but I eventually won the war!
Had lots of carbs off lots of NC's since and every now and then they seem to give you a battle.
Congratulations anyway on a job well done! Enjoy the extra throttle response

To say I was pleasantly surprised at the ease it went back together is an understatement!!

Next job, fettling the headlights for H4 philip x-tremes and the relay mod!

Poor inlet rubber condition is the main culprit for problems getting them back on (but even that can usually be gotten around), you'll soon get the hang of it.
