Help on fitting an NC29 race bodywork (seat unit) please

After getting a complete race bodywork kit and fitting the bellypan and fairing last week i thought i would fit the seat unit.

I took off the rear seat, side panels, lock and indicators but for the life of me couldn't fit the seat unit. The trouble is getting the narrowest point to slip over the end of the subframe at the point furthest to the front.

Do you have to remove the subframe to fit it?

What type of body work is it, is it the same style seat unit as standard ?

Unfortunatly it's the nature of one piece single seat units, the proper HRC ones come with a little piece that is removable to aid fitting.

You have to be quite brutal with them and if you have a powdercoated frame it will scratch it when you fit it ( ask me how I know lol)

if I remember rightly the way I used to fit mine was put the rear part on first then lower the front (nearest the tank) down gently pulling it out...no matter what you do you will have to be firm with it.

If it's thick fibre glass and made from chopped strand as opposed to mat you will seriously struggle to fit it.

Before we modified the ones we have made as per HRC with a removable front window (as Tanuki says) we had to make them from mat and very thin to allow for enough flex to fit them easily.

They were seriously light though.

They are a right pain to fit as the guys have said they are not very flexible so you do need to be brutal as tanuki says.

I managed to fit mine by removing the electrical components on the right of the bike, putting the front sections over the frame first first and then forcing it down around the brake reservoir. Its very fiddly and takes a bit of patience!

Thanks guys for the help and advice it's really appreciated. Seems there is no easy way of doing this.

As it will be taken on and off with the bike used on the roads and some track days this year Im going to modify it as per the HRC part. Otherwise I think there will be a fair bit of swearing going on at the least each time i want to change it

I will post some pictures of when its finished and hopefully fitted ok.
