R6 rectifier regulator on the NC...?
I think the rectifier regulator on my NC is bad and I wanted to see about installing a R6 unit. What modifiaction is needed if any and does any one have a picture of a installed unit they can post?

Re: R6 rectifier regulator on the NC...?
I put one on my nc30 in the original position, and it needs a small amount of mods to fit, probably a 15 minute job.
I filed some fins off at the back so that it clears a ridge on the subframe, and mount it using just one of the original holes (couldn't be bothered drilling another hole, and it's held firm). Chop the plug off and solder standard size (6.4mm) female spade plugs on, job done.
I can get a pic tomorrow if you need one.

thanks! In that case I would guess any R/R would work since modificaion of the plugs and mounting is needed.

Yeah I guess they might but R6 units are tried and proven, best to fix it properly the first time.

You can see where I had to file some fins to clear the subframe ridge so that it mounts flush to the subframe (important to shed heat!). The material is soft, the filing only took a few minutes.
The single bolt holds it fine.

I think mine is a 2003.calirvf wrote:Thanks stickshift! What year R6 RR? Looks like the 1st gen.
Early R6's (99-2001) also suffered occasional reg/rec problems, 2002 onwards is the revised unit I think.
