TRX rear end on a 3EN1- 850 into 400 does go =)
I did this yesterday-
TRX850 rear end into my FZR400 3EN1

This kind of shows the chainline

I'll need to have the sprocket carrier machined by a few mm but other than that, it was pretty simple
If you want to do this you'll need-
1. a complete TRX850 rear end, without the shock and linkage.
2. A pair of bushes to reduce the internal diameter of the TRX arm down to 16mm to take the FZR spindle. 33 x 16 x 18mm will work.
How to do it-
1. Remove the bearings whichever way you do it
2. Carefully cut the machined bits either side of the swingarm pivot off, the bits the dust covers go over. This will get the width right to fit into the FZR frame and keep everything centred.
3. Trial fit the arm once you've cut the machined bits off as you'll probably have to tidy up the cut ends.
4. Put everything together using the FZR shock and linkage.
If you use the FZR shock and linkage then the rear of the bike will sit 20mm higher up, which is no bad thing as the TRX swingarm is 50mm longer than the FZR one. The TRX arm is 550mm long and the FZR arm is 500mm long, measured from the swingarm pivot to centre of adjustment. The TRX arm is lighter than the FZR one too.
There you go
You're now free to enjoy the world of 17" rear wheels. The TRX uses a larger rear disc than the FZR so you need everything, including the wheel spacers and caliper hanger.
I hope this helps someone
Obviously, if you do decide to do this, I haven't told you to do it. I just told you how I did it. Incorrect use may cause serious injury or death. May contain peanuts. Your mileage may vary. Take responsibility for your own actions.

TRX 850 wheels are the same diameter as the 3tj wheel and thus you need to machine the lug nuts down to clear the swing arm.... or put the 3tj swing arm into the frame. Simples!!!!!!

Do you mean the same width? The diameter wouldn't affect the side-to-side clearance. I tried the TRX wheel in the 3EN arm and decided that it'd have meant too much messing about with spacers and stuff and we had a complete TRX rear spare anyway so just put that in instead. There's no machining of anything other than the sprocket carrier to line the chain up properly, which is why I used the whole lot.Motorcycle Solutions wrote:TRX 850 wheels are the same diameter as the 3tj wheel and thus you need to machine the lug nuts down to clear the swing arm.... or put the 3tj swing arm into the frame. Sorry
Yes i meant width, yes lots of people have tried to fit 3tj wheels into 3en swing arms, but if you can get hold of a 3tj swing arm and just fit this with a reducer bar fro the 3e1 spindle and probaly a bit of fine machining of the swing arm to get it to fit.

I kind of thought that's what you'd meant!
I just posted that lot up to show that if I can do it then anybody can and it is pretty simple if you're patient and have a couple of hours free.

The TRX / T'Cat / Foxeye rear wheel is wider than the TJ ... it's heavier, (maybe) and the rear brake is different.
The 3TJ (or some of the 3en2) is probably a better swing arm to use. Kala you should be able to use a later R6 shock (red spring) which should bring you back to about standard height.

Good work
i love seeing special builds like this, you gunna put the TRX engine in? i almost brought a FZR modded to take the TRX motor, i think that would make a killer trackbike or minitwins if it was eligable (sorry shite spelling
)

I know the wheels are wider. The TRX and Thundercat rear wheels are the same and probably weigh a very similar amount as the 3TJ wheel but the wheel I've used is lighter than the one I removed which is the main thingEvilchicken0 wrote:The TRX / T'Cat / Foxeye rear wheel is wider than the TJ ... it's heavier, (maybe) and the rear brake is different.

Thanks for the tip on the R6 shock
