nc30 battery/electrical help.
basically my battery isnt taking a charge sort of.
the original battery i had in would be very temper mental, sometimes it would start no problem after riding or after being left for the night, and sometimes it wouldnt even turn over and the battery would make a clicking sound.
so i put another battery in out of my dads nc30 and thought that would solve it.
it started fine, i went for a ride stopped a few times and it started fine then.
i stopped to get petrol and when i went to turn it on again it wouldnt even turn over and it made the clicking sound again.
so i had to bump start it to get it home which was about 15 mins away, and when i got home i turned it off left it for the same amount of time and tried to start it again and it started fine.
i dont know what is wrong, could it be a connection issue?

When it's running what is the voltage at the battery, I think it should be around 13v if its less than this there is some easy test to do on stator, from what you say its most likly to be a bad connection battery/starter/earth ect, disconnect and clean,
try not to run the bike much untill fixed if the stator is gone you could also blow the reg/rec this will cost you £60-£80

Re: nc30 battery/electrical help.
you should measure the voltage across the battery...
with the bike off (should be 12.8v+)
with the bike running at 5,000rpm (should be 13.5 to 15v)
I replaced my reg/rec and alternator and battery when I got the bike. Not too tricky but you'll need the correct tools and a new gasket for the alternator cover. Got my alternator and gasket from rick oliver.
Where are you based? Might be able to borrow the tools from someone. But they aren't stupid money - you need a puller and a holder.

Re: nc30 battery/electrical help.
You've got one of three possible problems and your battery and charging system is fine. The clicking noise you are hearing is either the starter solenoid (can shaped thing next to the battery) or the starter motor. The problem is either a bad earth or positive connection between the battery and solenoid or between solenoid and starter motor. It could be a faulty solenoid, or the starter motor may require new brushes and an overhaul. I would start by checking all the connections to do with the starting system and go from there.

Re: nc30 battery/electrical help.
That sounds typical of a fried reg/rect to me. 95% of the time it will be the reg/rect over the battery or alternator. Don't put a new battery in until you replace it or you'll fry that too. And avoid OE style reg/rects without heatsinks - Yam's are cheap on the bay and bullet proof.ChowderV4 wrote:the clock lights were pulsing brighter and dimmer?

Yep sounds like reg/rec to me, test it all first though.. it could always be somethign else.superlite wrote:That sounds typical of a fried reg/rect to me. 95% of the time it will be the reg/rect over the battery or alternator. Sounds like the batterys running down and not having enough power to crank the engine until it's been rested.
As already been said get an R6 reg/rec (2002-2005) model and fit that.
Mine gives out a constant 14.2v no matter what the revs
