No just disconnect the pipes- nothing will leak! She works on a vacuum!

There's a good chance that oil has found it's way into the airbox/carbs - an easy fix though.

this realy is a great forum and im proud to be a member so thanks everyone for the help so far.

i will be removing the tank and carbs tommorow and bringing them home for a good clean. Just to put me in good sted can i confirm that i can remove the tank without gushing fuel everywhere? im now aware that it works on a vacuum system but im still slightly miffed.

now the jets.... how many turns out for the main jet and how many for the pilot jet? and should i make slight adjustments for my scorpion pipe.

many thanks again

Mate: no fuel will come out of the tank when you remove it if the fuel tap is standard.

If you have the hrc fuel tap mod (not likely) then fuel will come out. You could always just shove a clean bolt in the end of the pipe and use a hose clamp around the pipe to stop any flow (or take the tank off and let the fuel out of the tap into a fuel can).

The main jet and pilot jet are not adjustable. Check out the carb jetting sticky in the workshop section for more pics and details. RVF pilot screws should be set at 1 & 5/8 turns out (sticky is for nc30 carbs, basics are the same).

You'll be able to tell if oil got in your carbs by taking the tank off, airbox lid off, filter out and having a look at the base of the airbox for any oil.

Yes that's normal, the crankcase vents into the airbox and a small amount of oil mist gets in there and condenses.

WRT the OP I'd inspect carbs and ign system, check all wires especially those on the sides and the ign coils.

Managed to get the carbs of today then enjoyed 8 hours work and I have spent the last few hours stripping and cleaning the carbs, and have recorded the jet sizes to share with you now as im a little stumped about them

all four main jets, emulsion tubes and pilot jets were the same

the main jets read (little star symbol thing) 108

the emulsion tubes had 3 holes each side????

and the pilot jets read (little star symbol thing) 35s

im aware that the guide was designed for the vfr and they differ slightly but surely thats not right?

ive got a picture of the emulsion tube but im pretty useless and cant put it on here via photobucket but i can show you the general design

so here goes, ive never been an artist so bare with me...

haha, any help appreciated guys
