Right, now that actually makes alot of sense.

Denser air is more compact so you could fit more in the cylinder, increasing overall effiency.
In other words they're purerly for looks, just like the RVF400 air ducts.

In other words they're purerly for looks, just like the RVF400 air ducts.
No they are there to direct air into the space between the air box and tank...if they were not there you would get a swirling effect in that space and the bike wouldn't breath correctly....as for the RVF ones I've no idea cos I've not seen one in bits but I would say that if either end of the air duct is blanked off then ye they are just for looks.
