Clunk when braking or going over dips in the road???

Post by Julesholling » Tue Jan 26, 2010 5:21 pm

My NC30 has just started producing a clonk or click sort of noise if i brake or go over a hole/bump in the road.
Never did it before and i'm wondering what it could be. Also makes a little noise if i push it forward and then pull the front brakes?

Was thinking it might be a loose brake pad but does anyone else have some idea what it could be? Something on the forks maybe?

try and put your hand so it is touching either top or bottom yoke and the frame around the front of the bike, roll it a few feet than pull on the front brake, if you feel movement the it's head bearings. If not look lower down.

saw this the other day on a friends bike, he had recently serviced the calipers and not tightened them back up properly so everytime he braked the calipers moved and caused a clunk. check this as well just encase.

Cheers for the help guys. Gonna check the bearings and brake calipers this weekend. Fingers crossed it's easy and simple to fix

depends what the cluck is like, if it hollow sounds like mudgaurd, if its more firm and metallic i say headraces.
if its the mudgard just tighten up the rings by packing the space between the rings and the forks with a layer or two of electrical tape/ptfe tape

I'm not sure I'd be able to hear a mudguard over my can. Headraces you can feel the clunk as it goes right through bars, same with wheel bearings, you can often feel them (usually only when really fuckin' worn though).
