TPS on NC29 racebike

Post by greggo »

I was wondering, as I've heard different things from different people.

I run an HRC CDI on a modified standard loom, red/blue wire from the CDI runs direct to the +ve terminal of the battery (although I think this is redundant with the HRC CDI), and I have the TPS connected.

When trying to tune the bike at the beginning of the year we discovered that there was a difference between having the TPS connected or not connected. This is despite having been told that the TPS is redundant with the HRC CDI. I had one person swearing black and blue it's not on an HRC loom so makes no difference, and then the obvious evidence that it does make a difference. For the record the power curve was rough with more dips and peaks than a nudest beach when it was disconnected, and much smoother when connected.

Does anyone know what the story is here? Is there a common mod here that I may have missed? I.e. wiring the switch into the permanent 'open' position?

supposedly the TPS alters the ignition timing to help smoothe the engine bog when the crabs are first opening.

The HRC loom for the NC29 has provisions for the TPS. If it wasn't needed, I am sure HRC would not have included it in it's own high performance kit.
