Valve clearance query
I have just checked my valve clearances and come up with something a little concerning,I wonder if you guys can tell me what to make of it. Cylinders 1,3, & 4 are about spot on. Cylinder 3 has produced some different results. One inlet valve is bang on the other is 0.20mm and therefore 0.02mm out of tolerance and both exhaust clearances are out of limits, at 0.279mm each. It seems odd that three cylinders are OK and one has three valves out of limits.
I borrowed a boroscope to check the piston crown to see if there had been any damage but couldn't get it in through the plug aperture and as the carbs are off being cleaned so I can't run it to do a compression check. It seemed to run Ok when I bought it but I started a strip down as soon as I got it home so I have never ridden it.
Is it worth reshimming them to bring them back in limits or is it a sign of something more sinister?

Re: Valve clearance query
Just re-shim them. I've done quite a few valve clearances now and some of them I couldn't even get a reading from. Fitted a smaller shim, got a reading and replaced as necessary. The motor is as strong as any other VFR I've owned/ridden.

Agree with Viper. SOmeone might have already done the clearances on this one before..
If anything I would relap the valves but that needs gaskets and some time...so unless nothing else is wrong I'd shim it and run it.
