Yes - I sanded it, primered it and then sprayed standard Halfrauds gloss black on it..bit of lacquer and fanny was my dad's sister

Hi.
Remember to use etch primer on bare alli first, and make sure the alli is wet and dried real well with fine paper, and degreased properley, otherwise the paint will flake off like crazy!!!
Take your time and it'll be fine, tho i usually get things powder coated (its not much more expensive buy the time you've bought the paints and wet/dry etc.

Hi Dan,
Dont know which way ya went with the paint but id only every etch primer and two pack onto an ally frame as they flex more than you would think. I work for a plastics company and have done test on paints/coatings for different apps. We found powdercoat can crack and lift and then water gets behind and you get corrosion from underneath were as two pack will just chip out and you can retouch the chip. They coat fishing rods with two pack and they can be bent in two.

No movement from my end yet on the painting.
Gonna start stripping the bike this weekend and prepare.

I've definitely decided NOT to powdercoat (my previous experience with wheels was bad enough), so painting is what i'm going to do.

Was your results based on just etch primer and paint top coat, or did you clear laquer the test samples aswell?

Hi Dan,
We tried both top and clear coats and the main things to get right are the prep and etch primer, you will be no good with normal primer. Still think powder coat is very good for things like brackets etc.

What sort of cost are you looking at for materials if you paint yourself, inc etch primer etc

If you buy Mipa or similar quality its about £15 a litre.
