Painting frame and swingarm

Post by Dan Norton »

Hey guys, anyone painted their frame and swingarm by themselves....how did you get on, any tips on which paint to use etc?

I pick my NC29 project up on Sunday, and i would like to start with painting the frame and swingarm.

I'll be honest, i did search the topic, but it didnt pick up the answers i was really looking for.

Cheers.
Dan.

Strip it and get it powdercoated? I reckon it will be more durable than most DIY paint...

I did paint my swingarm black - it is still black..

Im wary of Powdercoating anything where strength is required.....i had some alloy wheels powdercoated on my car a couple of years ago, and the powdercoating process weakened them and the spokes snapped! Talk about crap myself, fortunately it was at low speed.

So, im never powdercoating anything where strength is required ever again.

What paint did you use on your swingarm....standard rattle can?

Yes - I sanded it, primered it and then sprayed standard Halfrauds gloss black on it..bit of lacquer and fanny was my dad's sister

Ive never heard of powder coating weakening wheels, although i can see why your wary of getting it done again :o :o
