Air Filters Question

Looking at new air filters. They seem to be priced between £16 and £33 for what appears to be the same standard filter. Is there a difference between these pattern parts or is it as I suspect just down to what they they think people will pay? as an air filter is an air filter, if you catch my drift.

What benefits are there going for a K&N which is usually around £45.

A K&N has a slightly higher airflow, so you may need to rejet. The big advantage is that it can be cleaned so you'll only ever buy one of them.

I have changed 1 filter in nearly 30 years of everyday riding.
Have messed about on my race triarm with them, but thats for performance

Thanks Graeme, sorry just ordered one from ebay, I always forget to seek you out, must remember next time I want something for my bike.

To Mikiboy, I wanted to change it as it looks original and has the Honda code on it So I suspect after 15 years of use it could do with a change as it looks very mucky. I have also changed the small foam one, this was just a sludgy mess when I took it out, I did put some oiled packing foam in then bought the OEM piece which is very expensive for a bit of foam. Hoping it will breathe more easily now.

I also noticed 2 bits of foam on the top of the front intakes. Would I have to change these as well as they are very sludgy?

in the past, people have said that the paper OEM or non-OEM 1 use filters are the best to use.
the ONLY benefit of a K&N is its clean/reuse ability. it offers no extra flow.

i do have one in my bike. i saw no improvement, no need to re-jet and no loss in power/issues.

yes K&N filters enhance performance to SOME vehicles, i aint that stupid thanks; i know plenty of people in the racing industry both 2 wheel and 4 who use them to add performance. Just Not on the CBR400's

Nonsense. Unless of course the CBR400 defies the laws of physics. However. on this occasion I'll defer to your greater understanding of fuel/air ratios based on the scientific premise that "other people who use them say". Cant argue with that.
