Re: NC30 sidelight bulbs
Have just tried Mr.Fens dials with the LEDs and yes don't bother unless you don't look at your clocks at night very poor as a backlight.

Re: NC30 sidelight bulbs
I'll be honest I too was a bit fed up of the weedy sidelights. I always run with lights on regardless but didnt want to kill the reg/rec or battery and I was bored to death after being stuck in 2 foot of snow in the Yorkshire dales ( it was ok at first but it gets freezing in the garage even with a rad and halogen heaters on, shouldnt moan, at least I'm not stuck in an outside shed.
I bought a pair of LED strips from fleabay, you know the type, the ones that boy racers put on theirs Novas cos they think that it looks like an Audi (?) I made sure that they were the ones that you could cut to length and set about taking the headlights out. I couldnt (or didnt know how to, more like) seperate the lenses from the back plates so i inserted the strips through the appeture and after many hours of fannying about got the siliconed and stuck to the inside of the lenses. They are so bright that it took about 15 pics before the camera didnt just show a blue/white blur!!!
The only prob was the the lights could only be cut every 3rd LED so there is a small gap at the bottom. Having said they they now resemble the BMW angel eyes (they have a gap at the bottom) but with the bright Audi LED effect. Looks pretty shit hot if I may blow my own trumpet ( I wish)
Just looking out for some strips that can be cut individually to get rid of the space at the bottom. Let me know what you guys and girls think

Cheers, Neil

Re: NC30 sidelight bulbs
I once looked into this - I beleive you need to stick the lights in the oven to heat the gum that holds the light in place. Once it's warm enough you can sepearte the lens from the back plate; then you can put in your angel eyes and pop the lens back on. The gum (if still warm) should set hard and you're all set.Polisher wrote:I couldnt (or didnt know how to, more like) seperate the lenses from the back plates Cheers, Neil
If you google "build your own angel eyes" you'll find loads of pages and youtube vid's that tell you how to do it - just need the time and the patience.
All the same the way you've done the job looks good

Not sure if that was a compliment or an insult, but as you want the link I'll take it as the latter, lol

Re: NC30 sidelight bulbs
Sorry to butt in but as its snowing I was on ebay, I have a 93 Jap NC30 and ordered soem LED T5 286 bulbs will these fitt all the dash lights? i.e speedo, tacho, temp and not sure about the idiot lights ?? also fancy doing the H4 relay mod but other than buying a UK set of headlights or bending a nail to hold the UK H4 bulb in is there any other way? I'm sure I see someone mention Adapter rings or I may be barking up the wrong tree.

Re: NC30 sidelight bulbs
on mine i removed the dial and sanded off the plate leaving just a clear plastic plate i then cut a bit of white paper and stuck the mph overlay on the paper and laminated the two. this is then stuck to the plastic plate and fitted back to the speedo i now have a white mph dial.
for the back light i went to maplins and bought two 27000 mcd led and two 470 omh resistors.
pushed both of the original light bulb clip holders through the plastic holder and cut them off soldred the resistors and leds in line and pushed them into the plastic holder and fitted them to the speedo.
total cost £2.00
result perfect
although i prefaired the blue LEDS as it isnt too imposing and gives a nice modern look
